Use of color in UI / UX design trends
The rapid development of technology greatly expands the range of our capabilities. The greater the potential, respectively, the higher the requests. It is in this way that modern trends are formed. One of the criteria for product quality is its relevance. Therefore, a clear understanding of the prospects and trends in the design world will be a characteristic indicator of professionalism.

Color - the basis of visual perception
The study of modern web design trends has helped us conclude that color has played a major role in all modern areas of visual content. The strength and expressiveness of the color ranges help users to more accurately perceive the design and make the brand and its products even more unique and memorable.
The results of our study are also confirmed by the designers themselves, who use color as the main design element, highlighting it in comparison with other content tools, even over images that initially have the opportunity to tell more.

The main trends are the use of large color masses that occupy traditional white backgrounds, and palettes are not limited to one dominant tone. Strong contrasts of bright complementary colors stand out, which do not combine in harmony, but are visually pleasing to the perception.
This is the result of the continuous development of various styles of modern graphic design. Like all areas of visual creation, they continue to progress, radically moving from rational functionality to minimalism, to more unique and new visual manifestations.
Vibrant colors in harmony with neutral hues
After a period in which “soft pastels” prevail, we observe the appearance of strikingly risky colors and combinations that speak not of harmony, but effectively transmit the desired message to the user. It's about ranges of vibrant colors in different tones.

In general, these combinations of vibrant colors are softened by muted or neutral colors that help direct attention to where to focus.

This trend is characterized by the use of large solid color areas, and very often it is possible to meet individual accents of saturated colors, which attract additional attention.
Color blocking and contrast combinations
Color blocking has been a popular practice in fashion design since the 1960s and can be seen in the works of renowned Dutch artist Pete Mondrian. His paintings consist of an exploratory combination of vibrant bold colors with their complementary shades.

In fact, they do not have to be on opposite sides of the color spectrum, but the idea is to look for strong contrast between solid areas of color, which helps to find interesting combinations.

Traditionally, color palettes were much smaller, consisting of one or two primary colors. Currently, the publication of complex design systems (such as the DropBox redesign in 2017) has contributed to the trend of color importance and brought the palette even farther than it was before.
Twitch rebranding with new color scheme

Twitch updated the logo, created its own font and expanded the color palette to include many bright shades, as well as increased the saturation of its characteristic purple color. The colors of the palette, in which acid magenta predominates, mix with each other, creating duotone gradients to simulate a three-dimensional outline on graphic elements.

Colorful backgrounds
The following examples display a chromatic sequence in the background that appears as you scroll through the page. In addition to scrolling, in almost all cases there is a one-page layout with a changing color background. Colors are grouped together, providing a strong contrast between the background and the content.

Color found its ideal embodiment in the printing house, used as a graphic element, almost completely independently of the communicative message of the text. Backgrounds and texts play with alternating high-contrast or complementary colors, which ultimately give way to elegant animations.
Emotional color pairs and brutalism
The popularity of soft pastels has declined significantly lately. It all started with a palette of delicate pastel shades, in which pink and beige predominate, in the end we came to a rich gamut of colors, which is already manifested in web design trends.
According to Pantone Color Institute experts, the new trend is characterized by an extensive color palette with contrasting multi-colored combinations.

“Combining our striving for uniqueness, creativity and more spontaneous design approaches, the spring / summer 2020 color palette gives the design a colorful upgrade that creates strong color combinations and also energizes through visuals,” says Pantone's CEO.
Over the past few years of brutalism in web design, we have seen excessively saturated colors in boundary combinations that completely contradict the idea of visual comfort. Saturated colors compete for attention, which leads to confusion in the user's perception in terms of the hierarchy of content and points of interest.

Despite these factors, the use of brutalism can be noted as a unique and interesting aesthetic experience, if taken in a much more creative context.
